"Devonvale Bakery helps fuel triathlete success!"
Devonvale Bakery are very proud to co-sponsor Kerri-Ann Upham a local triathlete and eldest daughter of Company Directors Keith & Trudy.
On Thursday 25th October, Kerri-Ann competed in the ETU European Cross Triathlon Championships 2018 in Ibiza. The European Championships sees the best amateur triathletes come together and battle it out for the prestigious title of ‘European Champion’. Kerri-Ann was racing for the GB age group team for which she had to qualify for earlier in the year.
The event covered three disciplines: 1000m swim, 20km mountain bike and 6km trail run. Warm conditions resulted in a non-wetsuit swim and the female race began from the shores of Cala Bassa bay. Kerri-Ann had a flying start, she exited the swim in second position and within a kilometre into the mountain bike section she found herself leading the female field. As the half-way point approached the stronger mountain bikers in the field came through and Kerri-Ann slipped into 3rd position. Hitting the technical 6km run, the terrain was rocky and challenging, Kerri-Ann dug deep to hold her position and crossed the finish line as the 3rd amateur female. Once all the results were in it was announced that Kerri-Ann was the first British female to finish and 1st in her age category (25-29) and was awarded the title of ‘European Champion’.
What a fantastic achievement!
Kerri-Ann is currently planning her races for next season, so, fingers crossed, a great 2019 is ahead, further fuelled by us at Devonvale Bakery.
Notes: Kerri-Ann races for the ‘Pure Endurance Triathletes’ race team and is coached by Rob Moore of ‘trimoore coaching’.
