"Devonvale supports European Triathlete Success"
On Saturday 29th June, Kerri-Ann was defending her title in the ETU European Cross Triathlon Championships 2019 in Romania.
The event covered three disciplines: 1000m swim, 23km mountain bike and 6km trail run. Warm conditions resulted in a non-wetsuit swim and as a stronger swimmer this played to Kerri-Ann’s advantage, she had a strong start and exited the water in 2nd place overall.
The mountain bike section began with a steep climb up to Targu Mures Zoological Park where the remainder of the race took place. Kerri-Ann maintained her second place in the overall standings until the final lap where she dropped back into third.
The trail run was equally as challenging, 2 x 3km laps involving steep climbs and technical descents, Kerri-Ann was slowly gaining on the athlete ahead with each stride and shortly into the second lap she found herself in back second place.
Once all the results were in it was announced that Kerri-Ann was the first British female to finish and first in her age category (25-29), securing the title of European Champion for another year! Kerri-Ann was 2nd female overall.
Kerri-Ann races for the local ‘Pure Endurance Triathletes’ race team and is coached by Rob Moore of ‘trimoore coaching’. The next race in the diary for Kerri-Ann is Xterra Luxembourg this September, the first step towards some big goals for 2020 – watch this space!
